Congregational Care is how we care for one another. Rooted in Hillhurst's values of hospitality and spiritual nurture, our team of compassionate volunteers can offer support, connection and encouragement to congregants of Hillhurst and Living Spirit who are going through difficult times, such as

  • grieving the death of a loved one

  • an injury or illness

  • isolation or loneliness

  • grieving the death of a pet

  • mental health challenges

  • hospital stays

  • unemployment

Our team of volunteers can offer prayers, handmade prayer shawls, meal deliveries, visits, and phone calls.

If you are in need of support on a short-term basis, simply complete the form and one of our volunteers will contact you. Please be assured that any information you share will be held in confidence.

Congregational Care Programs

Visitation Team

A team of trained volunteer visitors offer one-on-one support through meaningful conversation – whether to share a concern or a celebration.  These compassionate listeners remind us that we are not alone.  All visitors have participated in training workshops and bring a range of gifts and experiences to caregiving.

Prayer Shawls

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry offers comfort and care through shawls handmade by volunteer congregants.  The warmth of each shawl is a tangible reminder of God’s presence as well as the love, support and prayers of the congregation.

Meal Support

The Meal Support program offers short-term help to individuals or families in a time of need.  Volunteers are able to provide food or offer a gift card for Skip the Dishes.

Pastoral Care

Clergy at Hillhurst and Living Spirit are available to provide support through one-on-one conversations and pastoral care.  Ministers can discuss personal concerns or spiritual questions.

Pet Loss Support

Recognizing how deeply the loss of a pet can affect us and how few spaces exist to grieve that loss, the Pet Loss Ministry provides a compassionate group setting to share stories, reflect and find comfort.  Meetings take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm at Living Spirit Centre.  Anyone seeking support for this kind of grief is welcome to attend.
