I like Zacchaeus

I like Zacchaeus - ( think George Costanza from Seinfeld ) he was a wheeler dealer, a schemer, a person who was according the the Bible “short of stature”. But this characteristic didn’t stop him.

As I proposed he was someone who had the courage to “ go out on a limb “ to see Jesus , to catch a glimpse of the much talked about prophet - and to his surprise- Jesus says, “tonight I will dine with you at your house !”

The uninvited guest then hears Zach’s confession and says - “ salvation has come to this house “ meaning wholeness and health has come via Gods grace. It is a story of curiosity, of confession, of wholeness and of grace. This is a pattern we are all called to live in.

Second Gaze

My second gaze, or deeper thought on this is that sometimes we do risk and go out on a limb and the limb breaks! We fall or we fail and things just down work out the way we hoped. That’s life too. The truth is we all experience loss and yes this falling is a falling upward into something new something and deeper and we are held in this in between time and restored ( salvation ). It just sucks in the in between time. It can hurt - a lot. Reaching and being rejected or ignored or hurt again is hard stuff.

Question

I liked the story - it is a curious parable of life and a call to action.
I hope I am always willing to go out on a limb for things that matter.
What about you ?
